According to CEC standard 6, teacher candidates should be prepared to take on multiple roles in various and complex settings. They are prepared to handle issues that arise with a sound knowledge of their professional and Ethical Principles and Practice Standards. As the field of special education evolves with new research and evidence-based principles, educators remain current in their field by participating in professional development activities that benefit students with exceptionalities.
Artifact 1
Artifact 1 is a collection of certificates of completion for several AFIRM modules I completed during my first semester of internship. During my internship, I taught a small corrective reading class of six students while the primary teacher was quarantined. Each student had their own behavorial goals, making classroom management a challenge. Thankfully, I had completed a series of Afirm modules prior to taking on this assignment. The modules on prompthig and reinforcement was most useful to me, as I was able to implement new strategies to create an environment that was conducive to learning.
Artifact 2
Artifact 2 is an example of a certificate of completion for an AFIRM module about Autism Spectrum Disorder. I completed this module to gain a better understanding of ASD so that I can implement strategies to better serve learners that have received this diagnosis. Many of the strategies I learned through this professional development module are also effective with learners that have not received this diagnosis, but have similar learning needs.
